Canada Caregiver Program, Is it Worth the Risk?

Canada Caregiver Program, Is it Worth the Risk?

by Sheila Atienza

With an aging population in Canada, it would seem that Canadians, who are needing care and support, find the live-in caregiver program the most viable avenue to respond to this so-called need.

This program under the category of temporary worker program of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada, therefore continues to attract more applicants and workers from many parts of the world. And why not, this would seem practical to many people wishing to enter Canada. And if those applicants become successful they could eventually earn the status of permanent resident.

With the growing demand for caregivers, one of the significant aspects we need to look at within this program is the protection of caregivers. Some improvements on this program came into effect recently, and therefore, caregivers could be more confident when they get to Canada.

However, there are stories we hear that some of the caregivers, while still under an agreement would opt into leaving their job, changing employers; And of course, for a variety of reasons. Now, what would happen to the employer who has sponsored an applicant? Well as they say, you would always find risks in anything that you get into.

Therefore, before getting into any agreement or sponsorship, we have to look at all sides of the equation and see if the decision is all worth the risk.
